LEGAL GLOSSARYWhat Is an Employment Agreement?
An agreement setting out the terms and conditions of an employment relationship.
What Does Employment Agreement Mean?
An employment agreement records what the employer and the employee have agreed about the work relationship. It commonly addresses duties, compensation, working arrangements, confidentiality and other terms that give both sides a clear basis for the relationship.
Why It Matters
A written employment agreement helps avoid uncertainty about expectations, terms and responsibilities. Where a dispute later arises about the relationship, the agreement is usually the starting point for review.
